Watering

Water once a week or when the top layer of soil begins to get a little dry. Always keep the soil slightly damp, but avoid overwatering as this can lead to brown blotches and falling leaves. The plant is dry and need watering, as indicated by curly or parched leaves. Water at the cooler hours of the day, such as the early morning or late evening. Prior to watering, inspect your soil every time.

The Pinstripe Calathea, or Calathea ornata in technical parlance, is a well-liked houseplant with eye-catching leaf. It is indigenous to Brazil's tropical rainforests. A description and maintenance instructions for Pinstripe Calathea may be found here:

Large, elongated leaves with contrasting patterns are characteristic of the Pinstripe Calathea. The upper surface of the leaves has a dark green tint with fine, delicate brushstroke-like white or pink stripes that run perpendicular to the leaf veins. The leaves have a deep purple color on their undersides.

Growth pattern: Pinstripe Calathea plants are clump-forming and mature at a height of about 2 feet (60 cm). The leaves grow in an eye-catching rosette shape from a central stalk.

Flowers: Pinstripe Calathea can produce little, insignificant white or pale yellow flowers on long stalks, though they are not the major appeal. But the main reason it's planted is for its foliage.

Take Care:

Light: Bright, indirect light is preferred by Pinstripe Calathea. Keep it out of direct sunlight to prevent the leaves from burning or fading. Plant the plant indoors in a well-lit spot or close to a window that lets in filtered light.

Temperature: The ideal range for Pinstripe Calathea to flourish is between 65°F and 75°F (18°C and 24°C). It is susceptible to temperature drops below 60°F (15°C) and cold drafts. Shield it from cold air and keep the temperature steady.

Humidity: High humidity is necessary for Pinstripe Calathea to flourish. You can give the plant enough humidity by spraying its leaves frequently, using a humidifier, or setting it on a tray with stones and water on it. Putting plants in groups can also aid in producing a microclimate that is more humid.

Watering: Make sure the soil is continuously damp but not soggy. When the top inch (2.5 cm) of soil appears dry, water it. Root rot might result from leaving the plant in standing water, therefore avoid doing so. To avoid shocking the plant, use water that is at normal temperature.

Soil: Use a potting mix that drains well and is high in organic materials. It is best to use a mixture of peat moss, perlite, and some compost or orchid bark. In order to avoid root rot and waterlogging, proper drainage is crucial.

Fertilization: During the growing season, feed the Pinstripe Calathea with a balanced, water-soluble houseplant fertilizer every two weeks. To prevent overfeeding, dilute the fertilizer to half its recommended strength. Fertilization should be cut back or stopped during the winter.

Pruning: To preserve the plant's look, remove any yellowing, damaged, or dead leaves on a regular basis. Trim any lanky branches to promote more robust development. It is best to use sharp, clean pruning tools to prevent spreading disease.

Pests: Aphids and spider mites are two frequent houseplant pests that Pinstripe Calathea may have to deal with. Regularly check the leaves for any indications of infection, such as tiny insects or webbing. Use neem oil or organic insecticidal soaps to treat pests as soon as possible.

Propagation: Stem cuttings or division are two methods for spreading Pinstripe Calathea. Carefully separate the clumps to divide the plant, making sure each division has multiple strong stems and roots. To use a stem cutting, take a cutting that has a few nodes, trim off the lowest leaves, and plant it in potting mix that has been moistened.

With its distinctive leaf patterns, the Pinstripe Calathea is a visually striking plant. With the right conditions—enough light, humidity, frequent watering, and infrequent feeding—your Pinstripe Calathea can flourish and add a refined touch to any interior setting.
